When you understand something and it feels like a Spark goes through your brain: that’s a Scintilla.

Scintillae is the brainchild of Alisha Ahmed and Raven Gough, where we critique socio cultural events and media to highlight the patterns and hopefully give you the tools to observe how the systemic oppression happens in your life, and how to move towards collective liberation.

We use an intersectional lens to discuss real life issues and contextualise them within a feminist, decolonial, queer framework: consider us your friendly independent scholars who prefer to reach out and simplify theory with the aid of real life examples that affect us, rather than fight within academia to still be censored due to our lived experience of multiple marginalisations and speak only to a small group of elite.

Alisha who?

Hey there, I’m Alisha (she/they), sometimes I go by Ysha Activist Witch because along with identifying as a Witch I also sit at the intersection of multiple marginalised identities: I’m a Fat, Queer Non-Binary, Autistic, Immigrant of Colour of Italian and Egyptian heritage living in Wales, UK. On a day-by-day basis I educate myself about the modern world socio-cultural system to understand how I fit in it and it is a never-ending experience for me. At times I’ve come to share what I learn. This is one of the platforms I do it on. Mostly for notes and reflections on ideas that I haven’t had time to make a video essay about yet…
